A site-specific live performance with 20 actors was developed for the Live Art Biennial Vancouver at the Vancouver Public Library, a frequent location for Hollywood film productions. The work set out to re-enact an extract from a 2000 sci-fi feature, which saw the library transformed into the corporate headquarters of a bio-medical giant involved in illegally replicating humans.
The Extras re-enacts a scene where a crowd demonstrates against the lab. The performance explored and replicated the extravagant gestures of political protesters, while three actors were reading a series of performative texts, narrative episodes, which explored the social and psychological conditions of the background artists as a metaphor for the creative producer in general.
